15 Holes on the Links Course are open. 12, 13 and 14 are closed. We regret to inform you that due to another 16mm of rain overnight last night we are having to close both courses.
Every effort has been made to try and open the courses however the persistent rain has nowhere to go. The Lakes Course remains closed.
We have 15 holes open on the Links Course today. 12, 13 and 14 are the holes which are closed. Gentlemen,
Due to the amount of rain that has fallen in the past weeks and is due to fall between now and Sunday we have decided to postpone Sundays Winter League due to be played on the Links course. The green keepers are doing their best to open as many holes as possible but with amount of rain we have experienced they fighting a losing battle. The Lakes course is also holding considerable amounts of water and will remain closed until the green staff consider the course playable. Please check with the pro-shop 01621 862326 before travelling to the club. You can also read course details on Twitter @ Five Lakes Golf, Facebook on Five Lakes Golf Club and on the club website www.cpcolchester.co.uk/golf blog. For your information and hoping the weather improves we have entry sheets on the main notice boards for the Daily Mail foursomes and the Crowne Plaza Invitational open to all sections of the golf club. I have included in this mail extracts from the latest Greens Sub Committee meeting chaired by Mick Gill. GSC February, attended by Mick Gill, Peter Smith, Gary Carter & Brian Earey 'Once again the golf courses remain very wet and unplayable, and so no play has been possible on either course. However we did still discuss several points. Peter and his staff are still working on the courses every day (which I am sure is not easy), and he has managed to renovate and re-sand 75% of the fairway bunkers with the remainder to be finished in the spring when conditions improve, an area to the right of the 17th has been cleared as this seems to be a popular landing area! The bunker to right on the 12th hole on the lakes now has new sand in and is back in play. The white tees on the 4th on the lakes have been stripped ready to be levelled & re-turfed, the 8th done by the spring. All greens on both courses have been hand cut. The 12th links course has had the water pumped off three times but unfortunately every time it rains we are back to square one. Peter reports that although frustratingly we are unable to play at the moment we will see clear benefits to this prolonged rest period as the fairways are really showing signs of good growth, so perhaps resting the lakes may not be such a bad idea after all. We now have the new marker posts and they will be positioned when the weather allows. Peter is still looking into ways of making the steps to the tee boxes safer and more user friendly on the 3rd The drop zones have now been removed from the 7th The pathway that runs behind the 15th help save the badly worn area to the left of the 15th Gary advised that there is now a sign up in the pro shop for visitors to read so as they know which tee to use, course etiquette, dress code etc, the shop staff are aware or this and will hopefully point this out to our visitors. We are still looking into the cost of new tee markers on the lakes and will have a cost at the next committee meeting. We will be providing two signs to the committee for use on the 1st golfers of any bunkers that may be out of play or any other information that may be relevant at the time. It was decided that there will be a notice put on the notice board after each Greens committee giving details of work that has been carried out by Peter and his team so as to keep the membership up to date with progress and any relevant information.
